Girlguiding in Dorset is very much alive and growing stretching along the south coast of England from "Highcliffe" of Christchuch to the spectacular "Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site " of Lyme Regis. To see a bigger picture click on the map.
Also along that coast nestled in Poole harbour is Brownsea Island where in 1907 "The Boy Scout Movement" began and it was from those very small beginnings that in 1910 "The Girl Guide Movement" began and still continues to grow here in the UK and throughout the world. We, here in Dorset are very proud to be a part of those beginnings and looking forward to Celebrating the Girlguiding Centenary 2010. For more detail of those celebrations see side panel.
Dorset is part of the Girlguiding Southwest Region which is also a part of Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in the UK. Guiding enables girls and young women to develop their potential and to make a difference to the world. Our members range from the youngest Rainbows to our oldest Trefoil members, all are active in different ways but share the same ideals.
